JUNIOR CRICKET GUIDELINES

COACHES

The club’s coaching staff are all ECB qualified. Club coaches and team managers have completed a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) or Criminal Record Bureau [CRB]) check and have attended Safeguarding Children & Child Protection and First Aid courses.

All club members who have regular contact with children are also asked to have a DBS check.

JUNIOR CODE OF CONDUCT

Kingsley Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members. The club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club should, at all times, show respect, encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with a CWO (see below for contact details) or club chairman, Kieron Ollier (07471 817294).

As a member of Kingsley Cricket Club you are expected to abide by the general rules of the club set out in its Constitution and its Cricketers’ Charter, the ECB’s Code of Conduct and Spirit of Cricket, and by the following Junior Code of Conduct:

All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
All members must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
Members must wear suitable kit – including helmet, protector, gloves and pads– for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager. See section Kit Requirements below.
Members must pay any fees for training or events promptly.
Junior members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.
Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS

1. Encourage your child to learn the laws of the game and to play within the spirit of those laws.

2. Discourage unfair play and disputes with officials/coaches.

3. Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.

4. Never force your child to take part in any sport.

5. Set a good example by recognising fair play and by applauding the good performances of all.

6. Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.

7. Publicly accept the judgement of officials without argument or comment.

8. Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy cricket and to develop within it.

9. Use correct and proper language at all times.

10. Do not forget, children are involved in organised sport for their enjoyment and not yours.

The club has issued guidelines for changing as it affects junior members. These guidelines are shown below. There is also an equity statement which outlines the open constitution which the club adopts. A copy of this is shown on the notice board in the pavilion.

KIT REQUIREMENTS

Cricket whites and suitable trainers or cricket shoes should be worn for matches but tracksuits are permitted for practicing. The following kit (with the exception of the Box) will be provided by the club.

All players under the age of 18 years playing cricket with a hard ball must wear the following protective equipment when batting or wicket keeping:

Batting: helmet, leg pads, gloves , for boys abdominal protector (Box) that is correctly held in place with suitable briefs.
Wicket Keeper: Wicket keeping gloves, leg pads, abdominal protector (Box) that is correctly held in place with suitable briefs and when standing up to the stumps a helmet must be worn.

JOIN THE CLUB

CLUB GUIDELINES FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO CAMERA USAGE

Kingsley Cricket Club and the ECB are keen to promote positive images of children playing cricket and is not preventing the use of photographic or videoing equipment. However, the club is conscious there is evidence in the wider community that people have used sporting events as an opportunity to take inappropriate photographs or film footage of children. The club wishes (as should all ECB affiliated clubs) to be vigilant about this possibility.

To this end the club will endeavour to ensure that:

• Photographs/images are not to be taken at matches or training without the prior permission of parents/guardians of children using the club. This permission can be given by proxy by the coach of each team only after parental consent for this has been granted. The coach must arrange this prior to attending matches;

• Children are informed that a person will be taking photographs;

• Children should be informed that if they have concerns they can report these to the coach or team manager;

• Concerns regarding inappropriate or intrusive photography can be reported to the Club Welfare Officer and recorded in the same manner as any other child protection concern;

• At Cricket tournaments/festivals/events/competitions a camera registration book for parents/guardians to complete is made available.

In respect of publishing of images (for press reports, use on the club’s web site etc.), the club will:

• Ask for permission from the parent/guardian to use their child’s image and wherever possible show the image to the parent/guardian and child in advance. Ask for the child’s permission to use their image in order to ensure that the parties are aware of the way the image is to be used to represent cricket and the club;

• If a cricketer is named, avoid using their photograph or at least ensure that the child cannot be specifically identified.

• Endeavour only to use images of children in appropriate kit (training or competition);

• Encourage the reporting of inappropriate use of images of children. If you are concerned, report your concerns to the Club Welfare Officer.

Using Photography & Video as a coaching aid:

There is no intention on the part of Kingsley Cricket Club or the ECB to prevent club coaches using video equipment as a legitimate coaching aid. However, players and parents/guardians should be aware that this is part of the coaching programme and care will be taken in the storing of such films.

Parents/guardians and children will be asked to provide written consent for the use of photography and video analysis.

GUIDELINES FOR CLUB CHANGING POLICY

The club has applied the following guidelines which apply to Adults and Young People (under the age of 18) sharing changing facilities.

· Adults should try not to change or shower at the same time using the same facility as children.

· Adults should try to change at separate times to children during matches.

· If adults and children need to share a changing facility, the club must have consent from the parent/guardian that their child(ren) can share a changing room with adults in the club.

· If children play for senior teams, they and their parents/guardians must be informed of the club’s policy on changing arrangements.

· For home junior matches, the umpires changing room will be available to use as a girl’s changing room.

· Mobile phones must not be used in changing rooms when juniors are present

Please note:

· If young people are uncomfortable changing or showering with adults, no pressure should be placed on them to do so. Encourage them to do this at home.
